Azores and Back Yacht Race 2011

After Sam White and Richard Raistricks efforts on the race to the Azores the race home will see Sam's first solo ocean race. The competion comprises some of the finest sailors in the UK and thanks to a great race here Sam is still well within sight of a podium finish. This is Yacht racing at its best and of course anything could happen in the next 1250 miles.

Not much of a blog was it!

As followers will be aware after a very frustrating 48 hours we finished leg one in the mist and rain at 05:44 in the Azores. A massive thank you to those who texted us throughout the first leg of the race.
The final scores - unfortunately 4th in class, Steve on 'Truant' (an identical yacht to Comedy) finishing 5 hours before us as we were still drifting in zero wind conditions off the coast of Sao Miguel.
Due to the lack of onboard computer I could not daily blog, upload any photo's or more crucially to the race receive detailed weather reports. Due to this Tactics during the race were quite basic made up from shipping reports and relying heavily on my wrist barometer and a few basic sketches (made from my head!).

4th place in class- against the fellow competitors I can hold my head up with that. Importantly it leaves me in a good position for the solo race home.

More to come... Need sleep, a beer and a shower, but maybe not in that order!
