Azores and Back Yacht Race 2011

After Sam White and Richard Raistricks efforts on the race to the Azores the race home will see Sam's first solo ocean race. The competion comprises some of the finest sailors in the UK and thanks to a great race here Sam is still well within sight of a podium finish. This is Yacht racing at its best and of course anything could happen in the next 1250 miles.

But not for long!

About 3 am the wind dropped from a healthy 10 kts to zero. Lucklly the
tide was still with us so we slowly made ground towards Dover.
Not being one to miss an opportunity I thought I would use the time to
take a bit of exercise and stretch out a bit. This came in the form of
an hours worth of rowing. Of course the underlying reason for this
sudden motivation to get fit was in fact to catch up with Taika who
was 0.6 miles ahead so that when the wind returned we would be level
and he couldn't get a luck break from being in the right place at the
right time! Of course as soon as he saw us rowing they started to as
well so maintained the gap and sure enough the wind filled in first
from exactly where they were! Before We were moving again they had a 1
mile lead!

Since returning the wind has stayed light and from the East so once
again we are watching Taika get further and further away. Unfortunatly
behind us it isn't looking good either as our other main rival has
made up around an hour. He started with fair tide but must also be
sailing very well to have done it.
If the wind goes around to the nose we may have a chance in this leg
still but failing that we may have to settle with 4th. (That is as
long as we can hold back those sneeky buggers in Jangada Too!)
