Azores and Back Yacht Race 2011

After Sam White and Richard Raistricks efforts on the race to the Azores the race home will see Sam's first solo ocean race. The competion comprises some of the finest sailors in the UK and thanks to a great race here Sam is still well within sight of a podium finish. This is Yacht racing at its best and of course anything could happen in the next 1250 miles.

Holding them back...

As expected Taika came by us with at least a knot knot better boat
speed it had taken them 3:30 to make up the 20 minutes lead we had. It
was no suprise! The J105 boat that they are in are prefect for the
given weather.

However... So far they havn't got far! The wind popped up above 10 kts
and since them they have stayed level with us. We are further East of
them at the time if writing this. I think we may be in a slightly
better position geographically but that will become clear in time.

We had to alter course for a couple of big ships but not by much.
Otherwise a very pleasant sailing evening. It feels almost like a
cruise!! (other than the fact that we havnt stopped trimming and
adjusting everything every minute to keep the boat speed!)

Flat sea, bright moon, good temperature and a steady breeze (so far!)
what could be better!.....
