After a hard but successful leg 3 we have moved into 9th place overall, remaining 4th in class. All was looking good for a 3rd in class until we were once again pipped to the post by Chris Tibbs in Taika.
The weather forecast for the next leg looks like we will have a good chance at taking some out of the lead boat 'the Shed'. That is of course if we manage to sail.....
Last night Comedy ended up on the rocks by herself whilst we were enjoying dinner. During the day a few boats had had trouble anchoring unfortunatly it was us that came off worse and now have a very damaged rudder and minor damage to our keel.
With 7 hours to our start the rudder is off the boat and is currently being repaired. Two mins ago there was an angle grinder cutting into it and if it's not fixed by night fall we will have to delay the work (ie getting the rudder back in) until tomorrow. That would shatter our ability to get a good result - fingers crossd for no more problems!
Other than that 2 out of our 3 GPS (navigation) systems have failed so our AIS (ship anti collision system is down) and we have no back up. No major problem but we may be forced to work on those paper chart thingies if the last sytem goes down!! Let's hope not!
So if I dont get to update before we leave, the tracker will hold the secrets. If we are moving we made it, if not it's all over.......

Good luck getting her fixed. Been watching the blog and tracker and saw the news article about her drifting onto the rocks.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Chris (sailed with you on island regatta last year with bridge and co)
if anybody can repair a boat....
ReplyDeletegood luck to you both - I am holding my breath that you will get fixed and rolling ...... I can't see my brother being beat yet by such a small problem...!!!!!!! as Dad would have said, 'give it a bash with an 'ammer'!!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you're back on the water. From some of the photos we saw on the main site, you were doing what Tony does best: tell stories and laugh a lot within close reach of a beer glass.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, you're also handling the heatgun like a pro!
Lots and lots of good luck for the leg to Lerwick. Take care!

so glad to see you 3 moving...well done to the boat!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you haven't wrecked the boat, that would have been a real bummer!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having fun out there on the high seas. I note you are currently doing 6.5 knots - you can do better than that, I know you have lots of your own wind (Sam, not Dad cause he's too polite!)!!
Speak soon.
Love H, D and J xx
