Azores and Back Yacht Race 2011

After Sam White and Richard Raistricks efforts on the race to the Azores the race home will see Sam's first solo ocean race. The competion comprises some of the finest sailors in the UK and thanks to a great race here Sam is still well within sight of a podium finish. This is Yacht racing at its best and of course anything could happen in the next 1250 miles.

The jobs are being ticked off as the clock ticks down

With a week and a half to go until the start gun most of the pre-race work has been cracked, there is of course the small matter of not having any sails, but I believe that is in hand!
Comedy is looking good, she feels good and is apparantly sailing very well post all the work, she was raced at the weekend by Tony (aka Dad) who had a very good result against some very good sailors!
This race is a very different style to last years RBI, due to the route not passing close to land between the start line and the finish line.
I will be using a Sat phone to update weather twice daily relying more heavily on routing software and will be able to update the blog more, it should mean a lot more bloggs being uploaded 'real time' and maybe the odd photo or two!
As there is fewer restrictions on the course, ie no headlands to force all boats to pass, the tactics are very different. It will be a lot more about routing tactics- although it is only the brave that will stray too far from the straight line route (Rhum line).
